The volume of liquid passing through a nozzle (also called the nozzle’s capacity) is typically measured in gallons per minute or liters per minute. Flow rate is affected by liquid pressure and other factors, including the specific gravity and viscosity of the liquid being sprayed.

Mesh size relates to the particle size that will be filtered by a strainer. Because the purpose of a liquid strainer is to prevent nozzle plugging it’s important to choose a mesh size that will screen out particulates larger than the nozzle’s orifice will allow to pass.

Liquid Flow Rate Range

Standard hydraulic nozzles range in connection size from 1/8” threaded nozzles up to those with 12” flange connections. Larger connection sizes typically have larger flow rates but a wide variety of configurations are available to meet your application needs.

Inlet Connection Size

GunJet spray guns are available for a wide range of operating pressures. The maximum operating pressure for any Low Pressure GunJet spray gun is 250 psi (17 bar). The maximum operating pressure for any Medium Pressure GunJet spray gun is 1000 psi (69 bar). The maximum operating pressure for any High Pressure GunJet spray gun is 4000 psi (275 bar). Be sure to check the specifications for each GunJet spray gun carefully and follow all safety guidelines.

The spray angles produced by nozzles vary from 0° for solid stream nozzles up to 180° for select hollow cone nozzles. For ease of product searching, our catalog groups spray angles into “narrow” (typically < 50°), “standard” (50°-100°) and “wide” (> 100°).

Spray nozzles are manufactured from a wide variety of materials that have been determined to meet the usual requirements of the applications most commonly associated with that type of nozzle. Standard materials include brass, steel, various stainless steels, hardened stainless steels, many plastics and various carbides. Spray nozzles can also be supplied in other materials upon special request. Materials of construction affect nozzle wear life and resistance to corrosion and abrasion.

Materials

Many hydraulic spray nozzles include a numeric capacity size in the part number. Capacity size is often related to the flow rate of the nozzle at the rated spray pressure for that nozzle. For example, the capacity size for a 1/4HH10 FullJet® nozzle is “10”, which reflects a 1.0 gpm flow rate at 10 psi.

Design Feature

Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a fluid compared to the density of water. It must be considered to properly calculate flow rate. 

 **Alternatively**, if you don't know the specific gravity you may select the **Liquid Type** from a list of commonly-sprayed liquids and temperatures.

### Liquid Type

 The type of liquid sprayed and its temperature affects the specific gravity of the liquid and in turn affects the flow rate. The default liquid is water, with a specific gravity of 1.

Specific Gravity

The angle of the spray pattern as it emerges from the nozzle orifice, measured in degrees. Narrower spray angles provide less coverage of the sprayed surface. Wider spray angles provide greater coverage of the sprayed surface. Solid stream nozzles have a 0° spray angle.

The angle of the spray pattern as it emerges from the nozzle, when spraying at the rated pressure orifice, can serve as a reference point for comparing different nozzles.
