Product Type

The spray angles produced by nozzles vary from 0° for solid stream nozzles up to 180° for select hollow cone nozzles. For ease of product searching, our catalog groups spray angles into “narrow” (typically < 50°), “standard” (50°-100°) and “wide” (> 100°).

Spray Angle Catalog Code

Many hydraulic spray nozzles include a numeric capacity size in the part number. Capacity size is often related to the flow rate of the nozzle at the rated spray pressure for that nozzle. For example, the capacity size for a 1/4HH10 FullJet® nozzle is “10”, which reflects a 1.0 gpm flow rate at 10 psi.

Capacity Size

The volume of liquid passing through a nozzle (also called the nozzle’s capacity) is typically measured in gallons per minute or liters per minute. Flow rate is affected by liquid pressure and other factors, including the specific gravity and viscosity of the liquid being sprayed.

Liquid Flow Rate

Standard hydraulic nozzles range in connection size from 1/8” threaded nozzles up to those with 12” flange connections. Larger connection sizes typically have larger flow rates but a wide variety of configurations are available to meet your application needs.

Inlet Connection Size

Actual drop size (measured in microns) will vary based on flow rate and pressure. The _**“relative”**_ drop size range represents the variation in drop size across typical operating pressures for a particular nozzle.

The drop size ranges provided can be characterized as follows:
- 10 to 500 microns: very small drops
(comparable to fog)
- 100 to 500 microns: small drops
(comparable to light rain)
- 500 to 1000 microns: medium drops
(comparable to moderate rain)
- 1000 to 5000 microns: large drops
(comparable to heavy rain)

Relative Drop Size Group

Spray nozzles are manufactured from a wide variety of materials that have been determined to meet the usual requirements of the applications most commonly associated with that type of nozzle. Standard materials include brass, steel, various stainless steels, hardened stainless steels, many plastics and various carbides. Spray nozzles can also be supplied in other materials upon special request. Materials of construction affect nozzle wear life and resistance to corrosion and abrasion.

Material Composition

Different nozzle types are _**“rated”**_ at various pressures, depending on the function of the nozzle and the pressure at which a spray pattern is fully formed. The flow rate (typically measured in gallons per minute or liters per minute) at the rated pressure (measured in pounds per square inch or bar) is highlighted in catalog performance tables and can serve as a reference point for comparing different nozzles.

Rated Pressure

A nozzle’s spray pattern is the shape the liquid forms after it emerges from the orifice. Different spray patterns are useful for different types of spray operations.
