Rated Pressure

Spray nozzles are manufactured from a wide variety of materials that have been determined to meet the usual requirements of the applications most commonly associated with that type of nozzle. Standard materials include brass, steel, various stainless steels, hardened stainless steels, many plastics and various carbides. Spray nozzles can also be supplied in other materials upon special request. Materials of construction affect nozzle wear life and resistance to corrosion and abrasion.

Different nozzle types are _**“rated”**_ at various pressures, depending on the function of the nozzle and the pressure at which a spray pattern is fully formed. The angle of the spray pattern as it emerges from the nozzle, when spraying at the rated pressure orifice, can serve as a reference point for comparing different nozzles.

A nozzle’s spray pattern is the shape the liquid forms after it emerges from the orifice. Nozzles are precision engineered to produce specific spray patterns such as full cone, flat spray, hollow cone and solid stream patterns.
